About Us

Kiwis for South Sudan is a registered charity founded by two passionate New Zealand doctors who saw an urgent need to support the world's youngest nation. Through various initiatives, we aim to help strengthen communities and empower families to achieve their dreams.

Kiwis for South Sudan is run entirely by volunteers, so every cent that is donated goes directly to support the people most in need.

Macleods on a Mission

Jono and Destinee Macleod met at Auckland Medical School in 2003, sharing a passion for medicine and a dream to help vulnerable communities in Africa.

Married in 2008, they moved to South Sudan in 2014 to volunteer with In Deed And Truth Ministries (IDAT), where they helped develop a hospital serving 50,000 mothers and children each year. Kiwis for South Sudan was founded at the same time.  We are a NZ registered charity that helps fund the work of our partners on the ground IDAT.

In 2015 Jono helped establish the IDAT Community Health & Evangelism Programme (CHE), focusing on disease prevention and community wellbeing.

In 2023, the Macleods returned to New Zealand, settling in Algies Bay north of Auckland with their three daughters. Jono continues to serve remotely as the IDAT CHE program director, maintaining a strong connection to South Sudan. Their mission is one dedicated to improving the lives of people in desperate need.
